Inspire Language Learning
Blogger Competition

An Apple MacBook Air or the chance to learn English with a Kaplan English course in Edinburgh!

These were the two amazing prizes in our Inspire Language Learning competition.

A total of 42 bloggers entered and each one argued what they think is the most important benefit of learning another language. Is it for love, travel, money or intelligence?

Kaplan would like to thank all the bloggers who entered. There were some great posts and some really interesting reads. The judges read the top three entrants based on the number of Facebook likes received. They decided that the winner was …

Chinchan of Juanderful Pinoy!

So…where’s the code to embed the infographic?

    • Martin

Hi Andrew. Thanks for the comment. There was a technical problem but it should be fixed now. Please contact competitions@kaplan.com if you have any further questions.

hi. i have a question about the form…i have to put my homepage, but before, you ask the URL of my competition entry. Whats that? Is it the direct link from my competition post?

    • http://kaplaninternational.com/blog/ Candida

      Hi Lorena,

Yes, that’s for the direct link to your competition post; so just put the URL for your entry. Good luck!

How come Asaf :Beemet’s article seems to have changed? When I first read it, there were no videos on his blog. It seems that some parts of the entry were edited.

    • Martin

Hi Mario. Thanks for the comment. The videos were on Asaf’s blog post from the start but there was an issue which meant they did not display. The issue has now been fixed. I hope this helps. Please contact competitions@kaplan.com if you have any more questions.

    Go Judges!!!

we’re all winners here already, so good luck everybody :) )

No we are not all winners, only the one’s who bought facebook likes in third world countries are.

I don’t know what inspired me more to learn a language, the videos of foreign sports illustrated swimsuit models or sesame street.

This is blatant spamming and cheating and sleazy marketing. Kaplan should be ashamed of itself.

    • Martin

Hi Elizabeth. Thank you for expressing your view again. As stated in our previous email and Twitter conversations, there is no proof that any of our entrants have cheated. We greatly enjoy reading your post, as we did with all the entries, and thank you once again for getting in touch. Martin

That’s a joke right? It’s pretty obvious that apps.at.corky.net/ spammed. It doesn’t really take much to research to prove that this is true. You’d have to be pretty blind to not see it.

Ever use Fiverr before? For $5 I can get a thousand likes. Funny enough, many from middle eastern countries. Notice how two of the “winners” are in Hebrew? In fact, one of the winners has more links than it has ever received in traffic according to it’s counter on its front page. The page isn’t even styled…

Technically LIKING a blog post for entry in a giveaway is against Facebook’s rules. Or in your case “number of likes”.Anyone smell link bait contest? Kaplan gained so much SEO value from this. The MacBook was incredibly cheap for how much they got out of this.

        • Martin

Hi Michael. Thank you for your comment. As we have stated previously, there is no actual proof that any of our entrants have cheated or paid to gain likes. We do respect the views and opinions of all entrants, and may decide to run future competitions without the quantity of votes being a key factor. Liking a blog post in this competition is not against Facebook’s rules because we are hosting the voting on our own website. This is in accordance with Facebook’s Terms and Conditions for Pages, and also their Guidance for running promotions and competitions. Once again, thank you for sharing your views, and please get in touch via email or phone if you would like us to talk to you in more detail. Martin

Pretty shocking to see such a well respected company stoop to such a low level of link baiting – Kaplan, you should be ashamed at taking advantage of the hard work of travel bloggers and awarding spammy websites the prize.
For what it’s worth (sadly, not much at this point), I think you’re incorrect – your competition violated Facebooks’ T&Cs the entire time.

            v.    You must not use Facebook features or functionality, such as the Like button, as a voting mechanism for a promotion. (from http://www.facebook.com/page_guidelines.php)
