Kaplan English students enjoying the Cairns nightlifeKaplan Students guide to the nightlife of Cairns

For years, tourists have flocked to Cairns, bringing exciting foreign influences with them. The result is an international nightlife scene with a laid-back Australian feel, combining the best bits of global nightlife into one top party destination.

Perhaps the best way to start exploring Cairns’ world of entertainment possibilities is with a Frog and Toad bar hop tour. Take your fellow Kaplan English language students on this guided bar crawl and you’ll discover Cairns’ best nightspots while you compete in fun games for top prizes. Highlights of the tour include the thriving PJ O’Brien’s Irish pub and Gilligan’s hostel. Much more than a simple hostel, Gilligan’s is Cairns’ most popular nightclub, with its spacious poolside beer garden and chic attic lounge.

Lively salsa nights at Casa De Meze and thrilling plate smashing displays at Fettas’s Greek restaurant are also favourites with Cairns partygoers. The fashionable Vibe bar, on the other hand, has a more sophisticated atmosphere, featuring contemporary artwork and premium Australian wines.

Ba8 lounge also has a quality feel, and is the perfect place to sip tempting green tease cocktails while you enjoy beautiful marina views. Continue your elegant evening with a trip to the ballet at the Cairns Civic Theatre. If you prefer a more modern performance, catch a play at the Jute theatre, a film at Cairns City cinema or live music at the welcoming Bull Bar.

Next, share tasty Japanese cuisine with other Kaplan English students at Ganbaranba noodle colosseum, or head to Ochre for a taste of Australia. This fine Cairns restaurant offers an adventurous Australian antipasto platter, featuring the unusual flavours of crocodile and emu.

Don’t like the sound of eating Australia’s native animals? Then meet them instead, at Cairns’ Night Zoo, where you can feed cute kangaroos as you learn traditional Australian bush dances round a blazing barbecue.

By now you’ve probably realised that the nightlife in Cairns is like nowhere else in the world, but the only way to really understand this truly unique scene is to see it for yourself.
