Inglese per viaggiare: frasi da usare per chiedere indicazioni

In un qualsiasi viaggio o durante un soggiorno studio all'estero, ci si ritrova sempre a perdersi per le affascinanti strade della nuova destinazione. E anche se hai un modernissimo telefono pronto a supportarti in un momento di difficoltà, spesso ti ritrovi a fermare un passante per chiedere indicazioni.

Anche se può risultare facile fare la domanda giusta, molto più difficile può essere capire le indicazioni, soprattutto in città antiche ed articolate in strade più piccole e vicoli.

Ma non preoccuparti, la nostra mini guida alle frasi da usare ti renderà l'esplorazione indolore, ma sopratutto indimenticabile. 

You: Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to the train station? (Scusi, potrebbe dirmi come raggiungere la stazione del treno?)
Passer-by: It’s to the right.

You: Excuse me, do you know where the post office is? (Scusi, mi saprebbe dire dove si trova la posta?)
Passer-by: It’s to the left.

Tra le tante possibili risposte del passante trovi anche:
- It’s straight ahead.
- It’s at the corner
- It’s two blocks ahead (or three blocks, or four…)
- I'm sorry, I don't know
- Sorry, I'm not from around here.

You:

- Excuse me, I'm looking for this address
- Are we on the right road for Oxford Circus?
- Is this the right way for Trafalgar Square?
- Can you please show me on the map?

Passer-by: 

- It's this way
- It's that way
- You're going the wrong way
- You're going in the wrong direction
- You need to go straight ahead of you
- Take this road
- Go down there
- Take the first on the left
- Take the second on the right
- Turn right at the crossroads
- Continue straight ahead for about a mile (Un miglio corrisponde all'incirca a 1.6 kilometri)
- Continue past the tube station
- You'll pass a grocery shop on your right, keep going for another two hundred metres. It will be on your left/on your right

Potresti anche dover chiedere se sei lontano dalla tua destinazione o meno:
- How far is it?
- How far is it to the airport?
- How far is it the beach airport  from here?
- Is it far?
- Is it a long way?

E ti sentirai rispondere:
- It's not far/ quite close/ quite a long way/ a long way on foot/ a long way to walk.
